Overview

Turn sustainability into business and financial value

Sustainability is moving from the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) department into finance, investment, infrastructure, technology and corporate strategy. This programme equips professionals with practical capabilities to evaluate, finance and implement the investments underpinning the transition to a more sustainable economy.

Across six modules, participants explore sustainable finance and reporting, green infrastructure financing, sustainable and Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centres, Sustainability-Linked Loans (SLLs), energy efficiency, circular economy and enterprise AI transformation, connecting sustainability outcomes with financial returns and long-term business value.

Why these skills matter now

Green talent advantage: Professionals with green skills had a 46.6% higher hiring rate than the workforce overall, while demand for green hires grew twice as fast as the supply of green skills.

Finance-sector transformation: Singapore’s Sustainable Finance Jobs Transformation Map identifies emerging capabilities needed by financial-services professionals to serve growing sustainable-financing demand.

Digital infrastructure growth: APAC’s data-centre development pipeline reached 19.4 GW in 2025, creating demand.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 12-day course, participants will be able to:

  • Evaluate green infrastructure and clean-technology financing, including debt, equity, project finance and bankability
  • Understand Sustainability-Linked Loans (SLLs), Sustainability-Linked Bonds (SLBs) and credible sustainability-linked Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Assess sustainable and Artificial Intelligence (AI) data-centre investments using Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE), Carbon Usage Effectiveness (CUE) and related metrics
  • Connect renewable energy, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) with corporate energy and decarbonisation strategies
  • Interpret sustainability and climate reporting requirements
  • Build business cases that link sustainability to Return on Investment (ROI), risk management and enterprise value

Topic/Structure

To achieve the Advanced Certificate in Sustainable Value Creation, participants will need to complete the following modules offered by SMU Academy:

  • Sustainable Finance and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Reporting for Climate Adaptation
  • The Fundamentals of Financing Green Infrastructure and Clean Technology
  • Driving Energy Efficiency Information Technology (IT) Operations and Sustainable Data Centres
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Centres & Green Financing: Lessons from NVIDIA & Hyperscaler Demand
  • Driving Circular Economy and Green Design for Climate Adaptation
  • Scaling Artificial Intelligence (AI) For Climate Adaptation: From Experiments to Enterprise Impact

Assessment

As part of the requirement for Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA), there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment for each of the 6 modules within 2 years in order to be awarded the digital Advanced Certificate in Sustainable Value Creation issued by SMU Academy.
