Overview

Designing climate adaptation startups requires more than innovation. It demands the ability to translate sustainability concepts into commercially viable, investment-ready business models.

This course focuses on building that capability. It explores how green design methodologies, circular economy principles, and sustainable business model thinking can be applied to identify market opportunities and develop scalable ventures. Key elements such as value proposition design, venture finance, risk-return evaluation, and stakeholder mapping are integrated to ensure alignment between sustainability impact and financial performance.

Participants will work through structured approaches to shape and refine climate adaptation startup models, culminating in the development of an investment-ready concept that balances sustainable impact impact with commercial feasibility.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 2-day course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply design thinking approaches to identify and develop sustainable innovation opportunities
  • Understand how sustainability drives business value, and its role in shaping competitive advantage
  • Evaluate key success factors that make climate adaptation startups attractive to investors
  • Develop a sustainability opportunity map to support strategic decision-making and venture design
  • Articulate sustainable innovation concepts that align environmental impact with commercial viability

Assessment

As part of the requirement for Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA), there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion.
