Overview
Financial services in Singapore are regulated under different legislative frameworks covering key areas such as banking, securities, financial advisory and payment services. In recent years, advancements in technology have accelerated the transformation of business models, and brought about new products and services, and the channels and platforms on which products and services are distributed or sold. Fintech innovation has brought many changes to the way people interact and transact. These changes have also introduced new risks and prompted regulators around the world to enact laws and regulations to protect the integrity of the financial system and the interests of different stakeholders. The impact of Fintech in the fields of finance, banking and insurance are far reaching and its sphere of influence is likely to continue.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 3-day course, participants will be able to:
- Explain what financial services are
- Understand the purpose and objectives of financial regulation in Singapore
- Know the framework and key principles of financial regulation in Singapore
- Identify key stakeholders in financial regulation in Singapore
- Analyse the nature of digital assets and explain the legal implications in Singapore
- Explain the considerations for different methods of raising capital in Singapore
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.

Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
- Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
- Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
