- Functional Laptop: (1) CPU must be of at least intel core I3, (2) GPU must have an integrated graphics card and (3) RAM must be of at least 4GB
Overview
This module is part of a sequential programme and is not available on a standalone basis.
Learning Objectives
- Understand what an Application Programming Interface (API) is, and how apps and websites use APIs and Representational State Transfer (REST) web services to communicate
- Set up a local Flask app backed by a SQL database
- Read and write Python code to serve up API endpoints for the web back-end that provide Create, Read, Update, and Delete (CRUD) functionality
- Read and adapt basic HTML, CSS, and Jinja2 code to create a web admin panel for the Flask app
- Deploy a Flask app onto the web using online hosting services
- Write a mobile app working with a Flask back-end to provide a full-stack mobile experience
Topic/Structure
- Introduction: What is an API, and what is the REST architecture?
- Python programming: Functions, loops, and conditionals
- Setting up a local Flask app
- Working with SQL commands in Flask
- Routing and web requests (GET, PUT, POST, DELETE)
- Introduction to basic HTML, CSS, and Jinja2 templating to create a simple web admin
- Hosting options for Flask apps
- Put it all together to make a mobile app that works with the Flask back-end

Upon meeting the attendance and assessment criteria, participants will be awarded a digital certificate for participating in each module. Please refer to our course policies to view the attendance and assessment criteria.
Upon completion of all modules required for this programme within a maximum duration of 3 years, participants will be awarded a digital certificate.
