PREREQUISITES

Overview

Digitalisation in the form of technological innovation is having an ongoing transformative impact on societies and economies. In relation to financial services, digitalisation has significantly affect all sectors ranging from payments to banking and saving to insurance to investing. There are also new risks to consumers associated with digitalisation specific to the financial services sector which need to be monitored and addressed.

Financial services in Singapore are regulated under different legislative frameworks covering key areas such as banking, securities, financial advisory and payment services. In recent years, advancements in technology have accelerated the transformation of business models, and brought about new products and services, and the channels and platforms on which products and services are distributed or sold. Fintech innovation has brought many changes to the way people interact and transact. These changes have also introduced new risks and prompted regulators around the world to enact laws and regulations to protect the integrity of the financial system and the interests of different stakeholders. The impact of Fintech in the fields of finance, banking and insurance are far reaching and its sphere of influence is likely to continue.
