Who Should Attend
Corporate leaders, executives and professionals who seek a quantum leap improvement in their writing ability.
PREREQUISITES
Course participants must be conversant in the English language with a good grasp of English grammar.
Overview
Strong writing skills are essential for corporate leaders, executives and professionals at any job level.
In writing a business proposal, a marketing brochure, a report, a memorandum or a letter, a speech, or in making presentation slides, the messaging must not only be clear and concise, but also persuasive and memorable.
NATURE OF THE COURSE
Clearly Write is a one-day interactive course that teaches the principles and techniques for clear, concise and persuasive writing.
Through discussions and writing exercises, you will engage in a dynamic learning experience.
Learning Objectives
- Learn the “5 KEYS TO CLEAR AND CONCISE WRITING”:
- Readability and economy of words
- Sentences that stand out
- Points that jump out
- Structure for ease of reading
- Flow of smooth messaging
- Learn strategies for various writing situations, e.g. writing a paper, explaining a complex matter, writing a speech, writing minutes of a meeting, making presentation slides and editing a written work.
- Learn to use AI as an editing and writing improvement tool.
COURSE MATERIAL
Course participants will each receive a copy of The Sunday Times bestseller, "Clearly Write - Win Your Readers Over with Clarity and Concision", authored by Prof Lim Soo Ping, the course instructor.
The book supports your learning journey to becoming a better writer. It has a guide on avoiding common English language errors and a set of writing templates for various writing situations.

WRITING EXERCISES
Bring your laptop for the writing exercises.
Bring samples of your own writing, e.g. an email, a paper, a report, PowerPoint slides, speech, marketing brochures, etc. (Redact all sensitive or confidential parts.)
Assessment
As required by SkillsFuture Singapore, at the end of the course, participants will take a quiz to assess their learning attainment.
Participants have to meet a minimum attendance rate of 75% and have to complete all assessment(s) required by the course. Only upon meeting the minimum attendance and passing the assessment will participants be issued a Certificate of Completion.
Participants who fail the assessment will be given a chance for re-assessment at a fee of SGD100.00 (excluding prevailing GST). Each participant is allowed 1 re-assessment. The re-assessment has to be taken within 7 calendar days from the end of the course date. It will be held on a weekday specified by SMU Academy and conducted during office hours. Please note that re-assessment fees are not supported by SSG Funding.
Participants who meet the minimum attendance rate but do not achieve a pass for the assessment will be issued a Certificate of Participation.
Participants are required to bring their laptop to access the course materials, class exercises and individual assessment(s).

SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.
This is only applicable to self-sponsored participants. Application to utilise SkillsFuture Credits can be submitted when making payment for the course via the SMU Academy TMS Portal, and can only be made within 60 days of course start date.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
- Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
- Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
