PREREQUISITES
Participants should have at least a diploma and two years of work experience.
Overview
During the course, participants will get to understand how fund managers engage in market research and analysis to forming a strategic decision-making process to match the fund's investment strategy, regulatory requirements, and investor preferences. They evaluate the operational flexibility and cost efficiency offered by different structures, selecting the most suitable option to support their management style and objectives. Upon completion of the module, participants would understand the specific regulatory compliance obligations associated with each structure including cash flow management and credit risk management, which is essential to ensure compliance with local laws, thereby minimising legal risks and optimising operational efficiency within the fund management landscape.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 2-day course, participants will be able to:
- Use market research and analysis to explore various fund set-up options available in Singapore, such as unit trusts, limited partnerships, and Variable Capital Companies (VCCs)
- Gain knowledge on selecting the most suitable option based on specific portfolio and investment risk management requirements and objectives, and understanding the advantages and disadvantages of each structure
- Provides an overview of fund structures, emphasising their flexibility, cash flow management considerations, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards when selecting the optimal option aligned with specific investment strategies and investor preferences
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment for each of the 6 modules within 3 years in order to be awarded the digital Advanced Certificate in Fund Establishment issued by Singapore Management University.

SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.
This is only applicable to self-sponsored participants. Application to utilise SkillsFuture Credits can be submitted when making payment for the course via the SMU Academy TMS Portal, and can only be made within 60 days of course start date.

Employer Sponsored
Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
- Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
- Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
