Overview
Participants will learn to apply Generative AI (GenAI) tools, redesign document-heavy processes using AI-powered data extraction, and design agentic workflows for multi-step accounting and finance tasks.
The course also emphasises governance and data management, enabling participants to assess AI-related risks, protect sensitive information, establish appropriate human oversight and support responsible implementation within their organisations.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 13-day programme, participants will be able to:
- Explain key Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts and evaluate accounting and finance workflows for AI adoption
- Select and apply Generative AI (GenAI) tools according to task requirements and data sensitivity
- Design document intelligence workflows with extraction, validation, exception handling and human review
- Design agentic workflows with appropriate task sequencing, approval gates and escalation paths
- Apply data-management and AI-governance principles to assess output quality, manage risks and maintain accountability
Topic/Structure
To achieve the Advanced Certificate in Generative and Agentic AI for Accounting, participants will need to complete the following modules offered by SMU Academy:
- Foundations of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Accounting and Finance
- Applied Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Accounting and Finance
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered Document Intelligence and Data Extraction for Accounting and Finance
- Applied Agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Accounting and Finance
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) Governance and Data Management in Accounting and Finance
Assessment
As part of the requirement for Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA), there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment for each of the 6 modules within 2 years in order to be awarded the digital Advanced Certificate in Generative and Agentic AI for Accounting issued by SMU Academy.

SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.
This is only applicable to self-sponsored participants. Application to utilise SkillsFuture Credits can be submitted when making payment for the course via the SMU Academy TMS Portal, and can only be made within 60 days of course start date.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
- Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
- Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
