Admission requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree with at least 5 years of working experience; or
- Recognition of prior learning: A Diploma from MOE-recognised Institutes of Higher Learning with at least 10 years of relevant work experience
- As part of the admissions process, suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview
Overview
This programme will equip accounting professionals with skills to leverage generative and agentic AI and other AI-related technologies for tasks like document intelligence, data extraction, financial analytics, and accounting decision making.
The IGD’s relevance to the accounting profession is underscored by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's recent Budget 2026 speech, where he highlighted AI's role in transforming accountancy and the need for accountants to build practical AI capabilities.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 23-day programme, participants will be able to:
Explain core Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts and distinguish between key AI approaches for analysis and decision-making in accounting and finance. This includes demonstrating an understanding of how ethical and governance principles apply in the use of AI
Select and apply appropriate Generative AI (GenAI) tools for common accounting and finance tasks. This includes making tool choices that reflect data sensitivity and confidentiality requirements
Redesign document-heavy accounting and finance workflows using AI-powered document intelligence, including end-to-end extraction with validation, exception handling and human-in-the-loop review
Design and evaluate controlled agentic AI workflows for multi-step accounting and finance processes, including task decomposition, orchestration, approvals/escalations and governance considerations
Employ AI-adjacent technologies (e.g. visual analytics, data analytics) to generate, analyse and communicate accounting and finance insights that support decision-making
Topic/Structure
To achieve the Industry Graduate Diploma in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Accounting, participants must complete either an Integrated Learning Project or Enrichment Workshops and/ or Networking Sessions, as well as the following certificates offered by SMU Academy:

Assessment
As part of the requirement for Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA), there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module as well as an overall Industry Graduate Diploma exam. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
CERTIFICATION
Upon completion of the following within 2 years:
- The required IGD modules,
- The Integrated Learning Project (ILP) or Enrichment Workshops and/ or Networking Sessions and,
- Passing the overall IGD exam
Participants will be awarded an Industry Graduate Diploma in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Accounting.

SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.
This is only applicable to self-sponsored participants. Application to utilise SkillsFuture Credits can be submitted when making payment for the course via the SMU Academy TMS Portal, and can only be made within 60 days of course start date.

Employer Sponsored
Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
- Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
- Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
