There are no prerequisites for this programme. Prior knowledge on any of the topics is not required. 
 

Overview

Learn to use visual communication and semiotics to influence consumer behavior and build emotional connections in today’s marketing landscape.

To remain relevant in an increasingly image-saturated economy, design literacy is the new essential for professionals, managers, executives and business owners to connect with their customers.

Module 1 provides participants with an understanding of how semiotics is used in marketing to decipher and influence consumers’ attitudes and behaviours. Participants will also learn how to draw upon the latest creative assets to skilfully compete in an emotional economy.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 2-day module, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the types of fields in visual communication for marketing
  • Explain how meaning is decoded and encoded in visual communication
  • Identify archetypes and motivations to communicate emotions and experiences
  • Use visual language confidently
  • Identify resources to build visual language
     

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)

  • Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
  • Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
  • Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
  • Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman

Winnie, a Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design graduate with a Masters in Typography, boasts over 15 years of teaching experience in graphic design. Notable clients include WHO Lyon, TNT Asia, Nokia, and Tiger Beer. She's won awards like Type Directors' Club (NY 2014, Tokyo 1999) and exhibited at Culture Cartel Con (2018) and SG50 Vernacula (2015). Tan's bilingual typography art emphasizes type as both image and text. She's been a judge/ speaker at events like The Crowbar Award (2019) and served as a set designer for various productions, including Crossing @Lee Foundation Theatre (2021).
