Who Should Attend

Working professionals who aspire to be software engineers, software developers, web developers and mobile applications developers.

 

PREREQUISITES

  • Must have at least a Polytechnic Diploma
  • Must have basic HTML/ CSS knowledge
  • Must be computer literate
     

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • Functional Laptop: (1) CPU must be of at least intel core I3, (2) GPU must have an integrated graphics card and (3) RAM must be of at least 4GB 

Overview

The Professional Certificate in Web Application Development (PCWEB) prepares learners with the necessary skills and knowledge such as Javascript, Python and Git to be successful software engineers, software developers and web developers.

During the course, participants will be exposed to tools such as Figma and Microsoft Visual Studio Code where they will have hands-on experience to develop web and mobile applications using Facebook’s React web framework. The React framework is widely used in several big firms such as Tesla, Microsoft, Puma and many companies.

Learning Objectives

  • Introduction to CSS Syntax, and how to select HTML with classes and IDs
  • Design fundamentals and resources for icons and typography
  • Getting started with Bubble to build simple web app prototypes
  • A brief introduction to JavaScript and jQuery for simple manipulation
  • Understand the need for software source control, and how it applies to usage in teams
  • Understand and implement roles in a software development team

Topic/Structure

To achieve the Professional Certificate in Web Application Development, participants will need to complete the following modules offered by SMU Academy in a sequential order:

Module 1: Introduction to Front End Web App Development
Module 2: Building Database-Driven Web Apps
Module 3: Back-End Web App Development with Databases
Module 4: Building a Full-Stack Web Application
Module 5: Frameworks for Full-Stack Web App Development
Module 6: Practical Tools for Web App Development Project

This course is also a part of the Industry Graduate Diploma in Web and Mobile Application Development.

CERTIFICATION

Upon completion of all 6 modules within a maximum duration of 3 years, participants will be awarded a digital Certificate in Professional Certificate in Web Application Development.

Fengrun is an IT trainer and freelance network engineer with 8 years of experience educating corporate users and school students about network security and web development. He started out in the semiconductor industry making tiny chips that let your mobile phone connect to WiFi. He eventually left that industry and started his career in network engineering in a local SME and then Singtel Mobile. Nowadays he teaches programming to students and builds secured LAN networks for offices. In between these jobs, he works on backend web development projects for corporate customers. Constantly staying ahead of patches and firmware updates keeps him very busy.

YJ received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in the USA, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education from the National Institute of Education in Singapore. Before Tinkertanker, YJ taught computing at Raffles Institution as Curriculum Head for Infocomm Technology, and served as a Senior Head for Policy & Planning at the Higher Education Division in the Ministry of Education, Singapore.
