Overview

Connecting with your audience online requires tact, care, and forethought. In the epicentre of a major crisis, the pressure skyrockets. What should your brand say when the facts and the future are uncertain? And how should you say it when new developments are coming in by the hour, or minute?

The key lies in responding quickly, and in a transparent way which shows your customers, and prospective customers, that you truly care about them, and are willing to go the extra mile to prove you are the brand they think you are.

In this module, participants will explore how to diffuse and manage online crises from a communications perspective with a view of mitigating the harm occasioned by such crises.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 2-day module, participants will be able to:

  • Understand crisis communications and the landscape of online crisis

  • Understand social media crisis: instances of social media crisis and understanding key learnings
  • Know how to use social media positively during an online crisis
  • Develop a crisis communication plan: categorisation of crises and escalation and activation protocol
  • Gain an understanding of key messages and strategies when interacting with various stakeholders and platforms (media and online)

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.
