Overview

The Industry Graduate Diploma (IGD) in Climate Transformation and Sustainable Value Creation is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary programme designed to equip business leaders, sustainability professionals, and technology practitioners with the strategic acumen to navigate the twin imperatives of our time: climate action and digital transformation.

This IGD bridges the critical gap between sustainability goals and practical execution. It moves beyond theoretical concepts to provide a deep-dive into the mechanisms of carbon and renewable energy markets, the strategic application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for climate adaptation, and the financial frameworks required to fund the green transition. By integrating cutting-edge topics from AI-enabled data centres and green IT operations to circular economy design and sustainable finance, the programme ensures graduates can drive tangible, investable, and impactful change within their organisations.

The curriculum is highly relevant to Singapore’s Green Plan and the broader regional push towards a sustainable and digitally-powered economy.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 24-day course, participants will be able to:

  • Integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digitalisation into Climate Strategy: Evaluate and apply AI driven tools and digital solutions to enhance enterprise sustainability, improve climate adaptation decision-making, and optimise resource efficiency across operations
  • Navigate Carbon and Environmental Credit Markets: Analyse the complexities of global carbon credit and Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) markets to develop robust procurement, trading, and investment strategies
  • Structure and Finance Sustainable Infrastructure: Assess funding mechanisms for green infrastructure and clean technology, including sustainability-linked loans, and evaluate investment opportunities in high-growth areas like the AI data centre ecosystem
  • Drive Value Creation through Sustainable Design: Implement circular economy principles and green design thinking to create new business models, reduce waste, and enhance long-term resilience against climate risks
  • Lead with a New Return on Investment (ROI) Perspective: Redefine ROI by incorporating climate adaptation benefits, long-term sustainability metrics, and the strategic value of AI-assisted decision-making into corporate financial planning
  • Scale Sustainable Innovation from Pilot to Enterprise: Develop the strategic frameworks required to transition climate-focused experiments and pilot projects into scalable, enterprise-wide initiatives that attract investment and drive systemic change

Topic/Structure

To achieve the Industry Graduate Diploma in Climate Transformation and Sustainable Value Creation, participants must complete either an Integrated Learning Project or Enrichment Workshops and/ or Networking Sessions, as well as the following certificates offered by SMU Academy:

Advanced Certificate in Artificial Intelligence Enabled Climate Transformation

  • Digital Adoption & Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Sustainability Reporting and Climate Adaptation
  • Carbon Credit & Renewable Energy Credit (REC) Markets
  • Enabling Climate Adaptation and Resilience with Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Climate Risk Assessment: Intepreting Data, Scenario Thinking and Decision Tools
  • Designing Climate Adaptation Startup Models for Investment Readiness
  • Sustainable Digital Transformation: Redefining Returns of Investment (ROI) with Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Advanced Certificate in Sustainable Value Creation

  • Sustainable Finance and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Reporting for Climate Adaptation
  • The Fundamentals of Financing Green Infrastructure and Clean Technology
  • Driving Energy Efficiency Information Technology (IT) Operations and Sustainable Data Centre
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Centres & Green Financing: Lessons From NVIDIA & Hyperscaler Demand
  • Driving Circular Economy and Green Design for Climate Adaptation
  • Scaling Artificial Intelligence (AI) For Climate Adaptation: From Experiments to Enterprise Impact

This IGD employs a dynamic, multi-modal learning process designed to translate knowledge into immediate workplace application. The approach is anchored in real-world relevance and active participation to ensure mastery of the learning objectives.

  • Project-Based & Action Learning: Participants will engage in a capstone-style project that runs through the programme. They will work in teams to develop a comprehensive proposal for a climate adaptation venture, such as a startup model, a green infrastructure finance plan, or an AI implementation roadmap for their own organisation. This ensures the synthesis of learning from all modules into a tangible output.
  • Industry Case Studies and Scenarios: Learning is driven by the dissection of real-world examples. Participants will analyse cases like NVIDIA's role in the AI ecosystem, examine successful (and unsuccessful) carbon market plays, and deconstruct the sustainability reports of leading corporations. Scenario-thinking exercises will challenge them to make strategic decisions under different climate and market conditions.
  • Hands-On Application of Tools: The curriculum integrates practical sessions where learners interact with climate data sets, utilise basic AI-assisted decision-making tools, and calculate metrics for energy efficiency and carbon footprinting. This demystifies the technology and builds confidence in its application.
  • Interactive Seminars and Expert Discussions: Led by a faculty of industry practitioners and academics, each session blends theoretical frameworks with interactive discussions. Guest lectures from professionals in sustainable finance, AI development, and energy markets will provide current, on-the-ground perspectives.

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module as well as an overall Industry Graduate Diploma exam. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
